CHAMPIONSHIP RIDERS’ – THE BEST EVER!

NEIL Machin, one of British Speedway’s most experienced promoters, has labelled the field for Sunday’s Championship Riders’ Individual at Sheffield the ‘best ever’.

Machin, a Director of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association, says a feast of fast racing is in prospect at Owlerton with fans set to head to South Yorkshire from all over the country.

British Champion and Cardiff wildcard Charles Wright represents Redcar and other star names include former British Champions Chris Harris, Danny King, Scott Nicholls and Craig Cook, who defends his Championship Individual title.

King is the only home representative and Edinburgh fans will be pinning their hopes on Sam Masters, who scored a stunning 18-point maximum at Owlerton in a league match recently.

Said Machin: “This is a stunning line-up. I really cannot pick a winner with any confidence.

“You can make a serious claim for most of the boys to be in with a shout, plus there is always the possibility of a shock – just look what Charles Wright did at Belle Vue in the British Final!

“It has to be the strongest line-up I’ve ever seen for this meeting – and I’ve seen a few, including the classic battles 20-years ago between Sean Wilson and Carl Stonehewer. I expect something similar on Sunday and I look forward to seeing everyone there.”

The racing starts at 5pm and admission is £20 adults, £15 concessions, £5 juniors and Under 5s go free.

A souvenir 56 page programme is also being produced with a gloss cover and exclusive interviews with Cook, Masters, King, Nick Morris and Steve Worrall – plus Sheffield boss Simon Stead gives his verdict on each rider. This is available on entry to the stadium for £4.

LINE-UP: Chris Harris (Somerset), Nick Morris (Somerset), Sam Masters (Edinburgh), Jye Etheridge (Berwick), Edward Kennett (Eastbourne), Jake Allen (Scunthorpe), Erik Riss (Redcar), Scott Nicholls (Leicester), Ryan Douglas (Leicester), Steve Worrall (Newcastle), Craig Cook (Glasgow), Richard Lawson (Eastbourne), Adam Ellis (Birmingham), Charles Wright (Redcar), Danny King (Sheffield), Rasmus Jensen (Glasgow).
